Stupak and Insurance Coverage for Miscarriages

Gang, the article I mentioned in class today:

This weekend, a group of male pro-life Democrats gambled with women’s health, and women lost.  By broadly writing in that insurers can chose whether or not to cover “abortion services,” pro-life amendments don’t just affect their intended victims — women seeking a way out of an unwanted or medically harmful pregnancy.  They also affect another group of victims — women whose pregnancies have already ended but have not yet miscarried.

This article from doubleX talks about the health reform bill and how the anti-abortion language in the Stupak amendment was probably a large reason that it was passed. Although the article is clearly biased, it covers the topic of birth control in the recent reform bills in an manner that is easy, and pretty entertaining, to read.

This article gives a great play-by-play of the abortion, the Obama administration, and health care reform. It discusses the controversial language of the Stupak amendment and various reactions. It also expresses that Democrats will have to take a strong stance for abortion instead of avoiding the conversation.
